Irish Chain Quilts Blog Hop!

http://www.happyquiltingmelissa.com/

I can't tell you how happy I am for Melissa and her new book!  A couple of years ago at Quilt Market in Houston, while looking and admiring all the booths from the windows, waiting for Quilt Market to open up, we met Melissa and her Mother-n-law.  They were doing the same thing.  We hit it off right away and I remember thinking to myself how genuinely nice and happy Melissa is.  Since then we've become good friends and when I found out she was writing a book I was so excited for her and new it would be fantastic!

The quilt I chose to review in her book is Unraveled.

I loved making up my charity block so much I did up another block just for fun!  I loved the instructions and how simple my block came together!

I’ve made several Irish Chain quilts. They are a great go-to for gifts. Can’t wait to see Melissa’s book with her contemporary take on the pattern.

I have made a traditional double Irish Chain quilt for a friend’s wedding. It was machine pieced and hand quilted.

I too have made several. Using different combinations of colours make them all unique. Changing out the background is the most interesting, I have used florals and even a leopard print for the background with a double chain of black & cream, very striking. Also I’ve filled the ‘negative’ spaces with appliquéd hearts and also one with primitive hand embroideries of the months of the year. So many ideas – so little time!!

I’ve only been quilting for one year and haven’t made an Irish chain yet but after seeing some of the patterns in this book, one is definitely on mt to-do list! Especially after I win!

I have made Irish chains before but have been interested lately in modern quilts. Since I have been dedicated to sewing charity quilts from my stash, this looks like lots of fun and easy to make. Anxious to see the book.
